“Caring for residents living with dementia is more than a job. It’s a privilege.”

Meet Miracle and Crystal, two incredibly passionate team members who love what they do and make it a priority to ensure residents living with memory support needs are receiving the quality care, compassion and comfort they deserve.

Personal Care Worker, Miracle, says everyone in the team goes out of their way to ensure the Dementia Support household feels like home.

Crystal, Assistant in Nursing (AIN), agrees. “There’s something so warm and calming about this household,” she says. “We all work together to create a welcoming and familiar space that nurtures the residents’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs.”

When the sun is shining, the team opens the windows and doors and encourages the residents to enjoy spending time outside by setting up morning tea or picnic lunches in the garden or guiding them on gentle walks. On other days, they bring the energy indoors, listening to music, doing puzzles, or even setting up a friendly competition with ball games. Residents also enjoy contributing the household’s day-to-day activities by setting the tables or watering the garden.

Miracle and Crystal both display deep respect for the residents and a dedication to making a difference in their lives every day.

“It’s important that we listen carefully and get to know the residents well so that we can understand and meet their clinical care needs and – equally importantly – their everyday routines and lifestyle preferences as well. This allows us to support them holistically as individuals,” says Miracle.

Crystal says there’s a richness to the relationships formed while working in dementia care. “I love being able to truly tailor my approach to each person. One resident might like starting the day with jokes or light-hearted banter, while another might respond to quiet reassurance, emotional support and a steady presence. Preserving their individuality is key – it’s how we help them maintain their identity, and their sense of self.”
